| Year on year we welcome the most exciting art events to Nottinghamshire. In 2005 the most significant exhibition of Pre-Raphaelite art chose Nottinghamshire as it’s only exhibition venue in Europe. Then in 2006, we hosted the prestigious British Art Show - one of only six cities to welcome the contemporary art collection. It's returning to Nottingham in 2010/11. Alongside these blockbuster exhibitions, Nottinghamshire is home to myriad artistic and cultural activities all year round. Nottingham Castle is home to outdoor theatre and music during the summer, and the autumn brings contemporary crafts to Lakeside Arts Centre at Lustre. Autumn 2008 saw the official launch of an exciting new venue in the heart of Nottingham's most diverse and vibrant communities. The New Art Exchange places African, African Caribbean and South Asian contemporary arts practice at the forefront of contemporary arts thinking, locally, regionally, nationally. And the Nottingham Contemporary prestigious international art centre, opened to the public on 14 November 2009 with a high profile David Hockney exhibition. There’s always something going on… take a look at our selection of top events, or browse our top artistic venues. |
