Japanese garden at the International Children's Festival

Year on year we welcome the most exciting art events to Nottinghamshire.

In 2005 the most significant exhibition of Pre-Raphaelite art chose Nottinghamshire as it’s only exhibition venue in Europe. Then in 2006, we hosted the prestigious British Art Show – one of only six cities to welcome the contemporary art collection.

Alongside these blockbuster exhibitions, Nottinghamshire is home to myriad artistic and cultural activities all year round. In spring, the city is alive with nottdance – an international festival of dance and live art. Nottingham Castle is home to outdoor theatre and music during the summer, and the autumn brings contemporary crafts to Lakeside Arts Centre at Lustre.

The Harley Gallery

Autumn 2008 sees the official launch of an exciting new venue in the heart of Nottingham's most diverse and vibrant communities. The New Art Exchange places African, African Caribbean and South Asian contemporary arts practice at the forefront of contemporary arts thinking, locally, regionally, nationally.

And the Nottingham Contemporary will be an international art centre, open to the public in spring 2009.

There’s always something going on… take a look at our selection of top events, or browse our top artistic venues.
